Oh, the Pencil skirt… I hear from people of all shapes and sizes that the pencil skirt just doesn’t work for them. Well, I think you would be surprised if you try one on! I never thought I would love it either, but this plus sized girl has a favorite skirt and it’s not the maxi! It’s the pencil skirt!! When you are looking for a plus size pencil skirt I have some suggestions on what to look for — things that will make them more fun to wear:)
Comfort
One thing I hear often about pencil skirts is that they are uncomfortable! Well, that can be true. But, my favorite pencil skirts have a yoga waistband… that means this skirt is like wearing yoga pants, but it’s a skirt. how amazing is that???
Bumpy Bellies
We are going to get a little real here — I have women of all sizes and shapes come into my boutique and say, I don’t like how the pencil skirt looks on my belly… that’s fine — we are not all ready to show off our visible belly outline (VBO). There are a few things that you can do to enjoy the pencil skirt without the VBO. First — in the outfit I am wearing for this post I have on an a-line top! This top flows and covers that VBO that would most definitely be showing if I tucked a shirt into my pencil skirt! Second, layers help so much in hiding lumps and bumps you don’t want to show off in your outfit.
Shoes
What shoes do you wear with a pencil skirt?? Well, Converse happen to be a personal favorite for dressing it down with a graphic tee. Booties, sandals, flat and even flip flops all work too!!
Pencil skirts can be your friend.. .no matter your size or shape! Try one on for size:)

I cannot get over how cute you look! I also love this style of pencil skirt. I’ve not tried it with that style of top yet, though. I’m excited to give it a go! I’m yet to pair my converse with mine, I def need to try that. Ps, in case it wasn’t clear, you look amazeballs!

Oh I’m so glad I stopped and read this post! So, I’ve been getting into sewing lately and actually got gifted a pencil skirt pattern and I’ve been wanting to try it, but worried about not liking it, and it not being cute… because I haven’t seen many plus size examples, but so cute! And the idea that I can pair it with my converse and tees… I think it is a must! Thank you!
